Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on university students’ psychological distress, well-being, and utilization of mental health services in the United States: populations at greatest risk

From Frontiers: “Over the past 2 decades, rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation have reached record-high levels in United States college students. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced a host of new challenges that exacerbated the mental health crisis among college students, and several indicators of poor psychological adjustment worsened during this time. The COVID-19 pandemic brought on much uncertainty, loneliness, health impacts, and financial loss, which in turn led to spikes in depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicidal ideation.”
