Is It Time to Regulate AI Use on Campus?
From The Chronicle: “The University of Texas at Arlington’s AI policy allows faculty members to choose whether and how to allow AI use, but it includes four specific language options for instructors to include in their syllabi on how AI can be used, from not at all to unrestricted use. “I’ve got 1000-plus faculty members — I don’t want 1000-plus different ways that our instructors are using AI in the classroom,” said Jennifer Cowley, UT Arlington’s president. … AI policies can also be a huge help as colleges’ employees sift through myriad generative AI products being firehosed at them by ed-tech companies or bundled into products they may already use. At UT Arlington, a special AI council reviews potential products for use.”
