Improving clarity in Financial Aid offers

From American Talent Initiative: “Financial aid offices across the country wield a powerful tool in shaping these decisions: the financial aid offer. In theory, it should reveal if students can afford to attend, but too often it leads to confusion. For instance, a 2018 report from New America and uAspire analyzed over 11,000 financial aid offers from over 900 colleges and universities. The organizations took an in depth look at offers from 515 institutions and found that 60 percent of them did not calculate what students would need to pay. Even years-long attempts by the federal government to promote transparency have, according to consumer testing, fallen short of answering the main question of students and families: ‘How much is this going to cost me?’ ”
