Opinion: San Diego community colleges want to help solve the housing problem. Here’s our idea.
From The San Diego Union-Tribune: “Planners estimate the San Diego region needs to create nearly 100,000 affordable homes from 2021 to 2029. Most affected by this shortfall are households at the lowest income levels, including many local college students … While the SDCCD does not have significant funding to build new housing, what it does have is real estate at 10 campus locations across San Diego. It also has the ability to bring together important local partners, including developers, housing advocates, and local and state government agencies … These partnerships already are paying off. … The college is exploring plans for a $130 million, 13-story, 613-bed student residence hall on its East Village campus in Downtown San Diego.”
