Water Generating Billboard Helps Desert Community

Located in a vast desert, Lima, the capital of Peru provides very limited sources of fresh potable water to its population. In an effort to promote registration for their first semester, the University of Engineering and Technology of Lima (UTEC) partnered with Mayo DraftFCB to create the world’s first water generating billboard. By capturing and condensing air moisture, it’s able to produce thousands of liters of drinking water monthly – enough to support hundreds of local families.

As a result the billboard collected over 9,000 liters of water in three months – all of which was used by nearby inhabitants for cooking, drinking and washing. In turn, the university recorded a 28% increase in applications for the 2013 program.
